Palau De La Música Catalania

On May 27, 2021 by Olivia

The Palau de la Música Catalana is a fairly modern concert hall located in Barcelona, Spain. It was designed by Lluís Montaner and built from 1905 to 1908, originally for the local choral society Orfeó Català that was founded over a decade ago in 1891. Since this place is still used today for various jazz, classical, and local music, it’s more than just a museum piece from a previous era.

Palau de la Música Catalania

Local architects created this building during a cultural renaissance in the city and the Catalan-speaking cultures. It was at a time when much of the world was changing. Since it was mainly created for church-based choral shows, the intricate designs are those that you’d normally find in old churches or even mosques, bringing about a sense of majesty and wonder to the place.

The outside of the building presents a more modest and functional style in line with a major industrialized city, though it hints at the intricately stylized interior. The further you delve into this place, the more vibrating and expressing culture presents itself to visitors. Much of the style is similar to Ancient Greek and Roman buildings, sculptures, and artworks.

This location features both local and internationally renowned artists, whether you’ve seen them in magazines or even down the street when it comes to the lineup of shows. Keep in mind that booking a few weeks in advance will save you money, so try to plan before you visit.

In Conclusion

While the tickets to the shows available here aren’t the cheapest, they’re quite affordable compared to something you might see in other major cities. The community-building focus of this place makes it more approachable than one would expect of a major music hall that features classical and jazz music. Even if these aren’t your preferred genres, it’s worth going to a show or two.
